I'm currently reading a book about the development of the lunar module at Grumman, written by the engineer who oversaw the project, describing all the intense effort that went into designing, building and testing the LM. So you've got 7 missions involving a couple dozen astronauts and thousands and thousands of support personnel, from thousands of NASA workers to probably tens of thousands of private sector workers in the aerospace industry and supporting subcontractors all over the country involved in these missions.
